The women's team recovered from their drubbing by Auckland a few weeks ago to make a match of their final before going down 29-12.

After trailing 0-12 at half time, the women's team drew level after two great tries to first five eighth Kararaina Wira. The team struggled to continue their momentum, with Channelle Wright outstanding in defence, but nothing could stop the well oiled Auckland machine coming back to outpoint the locals. Manager Rana Paraha was particularly pleased with the way the team had bounced back after their big defeat by Auckland in pool play. ``When we played them the first time, they stacked their team with All Blacks and Sevens players, so this time most of those players weren't available and the game was a lot closer - everyone was pleased with the way we played,'' she said.
