Match Report-
Northland simply outclassed a young North Harbour team scoring in the first minute to loose forward Tyson Owen after captain and second five Karaitiana Vette Welsh broke through the midfield from a scrum.
Fullback Saxon Samuels back from 3 weeks at the International Rugby Academy High Performance Players Course in Palmerston North was unstoppable scoring two long range tries and setting up his wingers Pera Wihongi and Araka Terry for two each as well.
The Northland team was always favorites to win and kept a number of key players on the bench to blood new players. They controlled possession well particularly at phase play and were just too fit and too fast for North Harbour.
Young Kamo High School players Aorangi Stokes and Wiremu Te Iringa showed the benefit of training hard with the Northland High Performance Development Squad since early November with dominating performances particularly with the ball in hand and their mobility in attack and defence really stood out.
Captain Karaitiana Vette Welsh the senior player of the squad controlled the tempo of the game from second five and ably backed up by his outside backs Saxon Samuels, Pera Wihongi and Araka Terry.
Northland used two first fives Jordan Karena in the first half and Tyler Landsdowne in the second half and both players carried the ball to the gain line well to set up their classy outsides.
Northland led 33 points to 5 at halftime and raced away to win 73 points to 5 a dominating performance which will have coaches Brad TeHaara and Peter Nock racking their brains for selection of the team to play Waikato this weekend in the Northern Regions finals at Old Boys in Whangarei.
